Horror blog site thesickhouse.com asked to review Re-Cut. Below is an excerpt of their review by www.sickhouse.com blogger Michael Lee.

‘Over the years it has swiftly become a growing trend to create documentary style horror films and attempt to pass them off as reality. With all the writers and directors out there that jump on the reality horror movie wagon, it can be difficult to find something unique among the pile of films that get tossed into the genre; in fact, more often than not the results are cookie-cutter and predictable, trying to mimic other successful films of the sub-genre like Cannibal Holocaust, The Blair Witch Project, and even the more recent Paranormal Activity. Naturally, when you embark upon watching one of these films, you’re not expecting much. Every once in a blood moon, however, you’ll be surprised by what you find; you’ll uncover a film that sets the bar, that keeps the genre alive and gives other filmmakers something to strive for. There is a definitive something that sets director Fritz Manger’s Re-cut apart from the rest. Most notably, the way the film plays out doesn’t give you the usual eye-rolling side affect that comes with watching most of these home-grown “THIS-REALLY-HAPPENED” flicks. Instead Manger has created an edge of your seat mystery slash horror slash thriller where the characters may SEEM real, but the whole thing is unmistakably fabricated for your entertainment. And entertain it does, my friends.’

Television Bloggers WEheartTV caught up with Re-Cut star Austin Basis to discuss the film, the experience and much, much more…
Check it out:

A Film, a Nightmare, and an Interview!

I had made a rule for myself a while back. It was a simple rule, one I should have easily been able to follow….but, really, I’m just not that great with rules. Of course, as per my usual rebellious self (apparently even with my own guidelines!), I have stomped all over the boundaries. And in return for my behavior? I’ve paid a price, time and time again.

The rule: No more horror movies. Ever.

The price: Restless nights plagued with nightmares.

Is it worth it? Hecksters yes if the movie is good!

RE-CUT, a little movie I was lucky enough to catch at the Austin Film Festival, was definitely good – disturbing enough to make me regret breaking my rule, but worth the risk of tackling my dark imagination. The film falls into the category of those containing psycho, back-water hillbillies generally performing…well, we’ll just say “unkind acts” on some poor, unsuspecting (and usually not-so-bright) travelers. These types of movies have always left me more than a little uncomfortable, because as horrible as they are, there is still that slight chance that the movies’ grotesque events could potentially be played out in reality. There are no mutilated zombies, no screaming banshees, no invisible poltergeists throwing knives around; there’s only people in their most evil form slaying the innocent just for the sheer joy of watching them bleed, hearing them scream, and catching those last moments before blissful death takes the light from their eyes. Knowing that there are actually human beings out there capable of this kind of torture makes these kinds of movies (and their subsequent nightmares) that much more frightening…
